Senix's ToughSonic ultrasonic sensors measure water level and distance through the air using ultrasonic sound waves, up to about 15 m range, in an IP68-rated housing. They give Metronix a lower-cost, non-radar option for river/canal level monitoring and flood detection where budget or mounting constraints make radar impractical.
